15th August 2022 – Today, Yoti and the Post Office announce they are the official provider of digital DBS checks for PeopleCheck, the UK’s leading background check provider for remote and onsite hires.

As the UK’s first certified Identity Services Provider (IDSP), Yoti and the Post Office will deliver digital Right to Work and DBS checks, streamlining and speeding up the process for PeopleCheck.

Historically, these checks had to be completed manually, with physical evidence and paper documents. But under new legislation, which came into effect on 6 April 2022, DBS and Right to Work checks can now be completed using an IDSP. Enabling DBS checks – including Basic, Standard and Enhanced – to be carried out digitally supports long-term post-pandemic working practices, such as remote or hybrid working, speeds up onboarding processes, greatly reduces recruitment/ onboarding times, and improves the security and reliability of checks.

Conducting a check through PeopleCheck provides employers with the Statutory Excuse for UK Right to Work and means that the employer no longer needs to check original documents prior to the person starting work. They only need to retain evidence of the online Right to Work check, which will be available within the PeopleCheck platform. This removes the need for employers to securely store physical copies of documents containing sensitive personal information.

British and Irish citizens who hold valid passports will be eligible for these digital checks. The guidelines are based on the new UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework, which aims to facilitate secure and trustworthy solutions around digital identity in the UK, improving the user experience and boosting economic growth.

David Hutchinson, CEO at PeopleCheck said, “We are delighted that through a superb partnership with Yoti and the Post Office, digital Right to Work and digital ID solutions have been successfully and seamlessly integrated within the PeopleCheck platform. The design, functionality and intuitive candidate experience is truly leading edge. This is a significant game changer for both on-site and remote hiring – with companies now being able to fully outsource UK Right to Work credibly and compliantly; at scale and at speed.”

John Abbott, Chief Commercial Officer at Yoti, said, “We’re thrilled to welcome PeopleCheck as the latest company to use Yoti and the Post Office for digital DBS and identity checks. With evidence of increased efficiency and getting people into jobs faster, these remote policies are quicker, more reliable and more convenient for all parties.”
