Yoti is now a certified Orchestration Service Provider (OSP) under the UK’s Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF), just weeks after the UK Data Act received Royal Assent.

Following a rigorous audit to ensure compliance with the UK DIATF’s strict requirements for OSPs, we have been awarded this certification by the Kantara Initiative. This milestone builds on our commitment to deliver trusted, secure, and inclusive digital identity solutions for people and businesses across the UK.

Simple and inclusive access to trusted digital IDs

Digital IDs are no longer the future, they’re here. We’ve had over 6.5m downloads of our Digital ID apps (Yoti ID, Post Office EasyID and Lloyds Bank Smart ID) in the UK alone – clear evidence that people want a quicker and easier way to prove their age and identity.

We have always believed people should choose whether to use a digital ID, and which one they prefer. Thanks to our OSP certification, we can:

  • Offer a single integration for businesses wanting to accept a variety of digital IDs – removing the complexity of connecting with multiple ID providers individually.
  • Allow businesses to accept DIATF certified digital IDs – not just Yoti ID, Post Office EasyID and Lloyds Bank Smart ID but any other business that certifies to DIATF.
  • Verify gov.uk credentials including mobile driving licences (mDLs) when they go live, alongside other certified digital identities, on behalf of relying parties.
  • Accept European digital IDs – bringing age and identity checks to even more people and businesses.

As an OSP, we make it easier, faster, and more efficient for businesses to accept different trusted digital IDs – which means businesses will now be able to verify people in seconds without having to ask them to scan in documents every time they want to prove their age or identity.

Yoti is now a certified IDSP, ASP and OSP under the trust framework

This achievement means Yoti is now a certified identity service provider (IDSP), Attribute Service Provider (ASP) and Orchestration Service Provider (OSP) under the UK DIATF.

In 2022, we became the first certified IDSP under the UK DIATF, for Right to Work, Right to Rent and criminal records checks. Since then, we have helped hundreds of UK employers complete over 2 million Right to Work checks, with more than one in every five already completed through our secure Digital ID apps.

And there’s even more exciting things to come:

  • Later this year, millions of Brits should be able to use a Digital ID to buy alcohol in around 200,000 licensed premises, including supermarkets, bars and clubs.
  • HM Treasury will produce new Money Laundering Regulation (MLR) guidance that recognises the role of reliable digital identities. This will unlock the use of trusted and secure digital identities in the financial services sector.
  • With online safety regulations tightening, age checks are becoming a common part of the digital experience. Since the UK Online Safety Act came into force, we’re seeing more people choosing our privacy-first Digital ID to prove their age, without revealing anything else about themselves.

A word from our CEO

“Achieving our Orchestration Service Provider certification is a significant step forward towards us building a safe, interoperable digital identity network in the UK. Through one single integration, Yoti can let businesses accept digital IDs from a range of different companies, dramatically speeding up their identity verification processes.

Trusted digital identities help individuals and businesses securely access services, reduce fraud, and strengthen data privacy protections. We’ve already seen the benefits in employment checks, and our latest certification – together with the passing of the Data Act – opens up even more opportunities to expand the practical use of digital IDs. This means people will have an easier and more secure way to prove who they are in an ever-growing range of situations – including employment, finance, property and accessing age-restricted goods and services.

As the UK embraces new legislation and trust frameworks, we remain committed to making digital IDs simple, secure and private for tens of millions of UK individuals. In July, our UK Digital ID downloads surpassed 6.5 million – and the number keeps climbing daily. With the Online Safety Act now in force, and more utility for digital IDs on the horizon, momentum for digital IDs is growing fast. They’re no longer the future – they’re here.”

German regulator KJM cuts facial age estimation buffer for 18+ content checks from 5 to 3 years

The German regulator, KJM, has reduced the buffer for facial age estimation for the highest level of age assurance from 5 to 3 years. This means, instead of users needing to be estimated as over 23, users must now be estimated as over 21.   Originally approved by KJM in November 2021 for 16+ (erotic) content, in May 2022 KJM approved the use for facial age estimation for the highest level of assurance, covering 18+ adult content, with a buffer of 5 years. Now, KJM have reduced the buffer required by platforms from 5 to 3 years. This follows an
