14th August 2020, LONDON — Retail Technology company StrongPoint and digital ID platform Yoti have signed a strategic partnership agreement to drive automated retail innovation. The companies began collaborating in 2018 and have streamlined Click & Collect, tobacco dispensing and automated self-checkout solutions to reduce the need for staff interventions. This presents a double win for retailers looking to save time and money, giving shoppers a seamless and contactless checkout experience.

StrongPoint will introduce Yoti’s integrated age estimation and verification solution across grocery stores that have installed its self-checkouts, Click & Collect lockers and Vensafe dispensing machines – as well as push these self-serve solutions to new retailers globally.

StrongPoint focuses on helping retailers increase productivity with integrated in-store technologies, checkout efficiency solutions and e-commerce logistics such as order picking and last mile solutions. Together with Yoti StrongPoint can now deliver leading solutions for automated age-restricted purchases in supermarkets using both Yoti digital IDs and age estimation software.

Yoti is the world’s leading digital identity and credential management platform with products spanning identity verification, age verification, document e-signing, access management and biometric authentication. By integrating Yoti, shoppers are given the choice to prove their age by having their age estimated or by using the free Yoti app.

Our age estimation technology Yoti Age Scan is powered by AI and is a privacy-preserving, anonymous age estimation technology that makes Yoti unmatched for digital age verification. Shoppers don’t need to provide an ID document – they simply look into the camera to have their age estimated. If they are estimated to look over the required age, they will be able to proceed and buy their age-restricted good without intervention. The image captured is immediately deleted.

Alternatively, if an individual looks under the required age, they can use the free Yoti app to prove their age, the app matches an individual’s biometrics and to their government-approved photo ID to ensure there are no spoofing attempts. An individual can then share the fact they are over the required age by scanning the QR code on the checkout screen and approving the share on their app. The Yoti app has over 7 million downloads globally and accepts ID documents from over 200 countries and territories.

Julius Stulpinas, SVP StrongPoint Technology said “Pushing the limits is always on our radar. For years working with self-service solutions and checkout efficiency, we clearly see the benefit and value Yoti’s platform is bringing to the automation of commerce processes. Today, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the retail community is facing new key priority – to make shopping safer. Automated age verification on self-checkouts and Click & Collect lockers will enable to eliminate direct contact between store staff and customers, making the shopping journey safer and faster. The partnership between StrongPoint and Yoti will set a new bar of convenience and safety –when automated age verification becomes such a breeze”

John Abbott, Chief Business Officer at Yoti said “Our partnership with StrongPoint goes from strength to strength. Yoti is leading the way when it comes to helping people prove their age using digital identities and age estimation technology. Our customer-centric technology improves the shopping experience, boosts compliance and improves staff safety.

Shoppers don’t need to sign up for the age estimation solution, or carry personal documents to the store – this means the time of store staff can be dedicated to providing higher-value services for customers and respect social distancing rules in the backdrop of Covid-19.”

Yoti is designed with user privacy at its heart. All data is encrypted and Yoti cannot see or sell user data to third parties, or share any details without explicit user content. Yoti cannot track users and individuals control which details they share, aligning to the emerging global W3C standards for verifiable credentials. Every time information is shared, both parties receive a receipt of what is shared and when.

Yoti is also helping organisations explore ways back to business during the Covid-19 and beyond, with individuals able to create their own free, secure Yoti digital ID and then share selected identity details. Organisations can issue, update and revoke trusted credentials through the and Yoti app. These include employer, job title, work location, verified work email address and also COVID-19 health test results. These can be seconds with a tap of a button or scan of a QR code and includes anti-spoofing measures to remove the risk of fraud.
