How Digital ID works
Users add a government-issued ID document and take a biometric selfie to create their reusable Digital ID. Once verified, they simply scan a QR code or tap a button to share only the details your organisation needs.

Verified personal details
Any information a person adds to their Digital ID can be verified by us so you know they’re genuine. As well as information extracted from a government-approved ID document, we can also verify details they manually add like contact details. All these details are securely encrypted and stored in their Digital ID app where only they can access them.

How we verify your customers
Our robust verification process uses automated processes, supported by a team of verification experts, to ensure only genuine users can create a Digital ID.
Accurate data extraction
We use OCR technology, NFC chip reading and our expert security team to accurately extract data from thousands of ID document types from over 200 countries and territories.
Document authenticity check
Our hybrid approach uses both automatic and manual processes to check the security features of each unique ID document to make sure it’s genuine.
Liveness detection
Our anti-spoofing liveness test gives us confidence that we’ve captured an image of a real person in front of a camera, not a spoof through an automated bot, mask or photo.
Biometric face match
We compare the scan of the user’s face captured during liveness to their ID document photo to confirm that the ID document belongs to the user.
A radical new approach to storing and protecting data
Our systems are architected using PKI technology, which means a user’s data can only be accessed by the user.
- Separately encrypted details
Any details a user adds to their digital ID are split up, individually encrypted and safely stored in Yoti’s database. Users are in control to share specific details, rather than sharing their whole ID.
- Only accessible by the user
Only the user has the key to unlock their encrypted details. This key is stored safely on their phone and not on the Yoti database. - Request only the details you need
Your customers will feel safe sharing less data and you can ensure you’re complying with the GDPR principle of data minimisation.
