Facial age estimation
Users capture a selfie using their device camera and Yoti’s algorithm estimates their age via facial analysis. Our technology is independently tested and its accuracy is continuously improved. As of September 2024, the True Positive Rate (proportion of cases correctly classified) for 13 to 17 year olds being correctly estimated as under 21 is 99.3%.
Digital ID wallet
Users with a Digital ID wallet can quickly verify their age on-device without going through the age verification process again. They verify their age in their Digital ID once and can then reuse it privately and securely.
Identity document
Users scan their identity document and capture a selfie. Yoti matches the selfie to the document and verifies authenticity. The business only receives an over/under age result or a date of birth.
Yoti Keys
Yoti Keys are an on-device method of age verification, giving users continued access to your site without having to prove their age again. Yoti Keys don’t contain any personal details – just the result of an age check and information about when and how it was performed. Works with incognito and private browsers.
Credit card
Credit card details are verified with a temporary charge (no money leaves the user’s account) to check if the user is 18+.
Mobile
The user’s 18+ status is checked using the billing payer data linked to the phone number, alongside secondary data sources, such as utility and transaction history.
Electronic ID
The user’s age is checked using national eID schemes.
Social Security Number
The user’s name, date of birth, zip code and SSN are verified with a data intelligence provider to confirm if the user is 18+.
Database
The user’s name, address and date of birth are verified against a database to determine if the user is 18+.
Email age estimation
If you have a verified email address for a user, you can ask us to check whether it is likely to be associated with someone aged 18+ based on usage. We check the email address’ source, whether it is linked to an employer and any financial transactions tied to it, such as mortgages, credit cards, educational history or consumer behaviour.
