As part of Yoti’s commitment to working with charities to help solve local and global problems, we’re thrilled to be holding a second hack event on the 19th September 2017 – and we’re looking for non-profits to participate.

The challenge
We are looking for non-profits where existing methods for identifying or verifying who someone is are unreliable, unsafe or inefficient. This might be an issue specific to your organisation, but could equally be a sector-wide challenge such as combating identity fraud or developing more robust data privacy controls in response to GDPR. At the last hack, examples included NSPCC, who needed a way for young people to prove they’re under 18 years old in order to have a sexually explicit image of themselves removed from the web, and Centrepoint, who needed to verify the identity of former residents to provide them with the documents they need to secure a tenancy.

What can you expect?
You’ll come to a ‘design hack’ day at our offices in Central London on 19th September, where you’ll be supported by a team of developers from Founders and Coders to work-up a design of an app that solves the challenge you’re facing with ID. You won’t be doing any coding and don’t need any previous experience – you just need to know the issue you’re trying to solve, and have the commitment from your organisation to implement a solution.

At the end of the day, you’ll pitch your idea to a panel of judges, and the most promising idea will win a dedicated development team for a month to create and test a working prototype solution. Therefore, please be prepared that if you do win the prize, you’ll need to be on hand to answer questions from the developers and help arrange some user-testing.

We know that the time of charity staff is a valuable resource, so we’re keen to make sure that all participants gain from the experience. At the least, you’ll benefit from expert support in working through your challenge. However, should you win the grand prize, you’ll have a tested, live prototype to work with, which will hopefully form the base of a live application – as was the case with NSPCC.

Sounds like you, or a charity you know? Then please fill out our (very short!) expression of interest form, and we’ll be in touch.

Can’t make it on the day?
We’ll be holding future events, so please sign up to our expression of interest form letting us know you can’t make it on the day, and we’ll be in touch.
