Digital identities have arrived
On Thursday 9 November 2017 – after three years of building – we launched Yoti.
Yoti is your digital identity. It’s the easier, safer way to prove your identity online and in person. It’s the free app for consumers, the identity platform for businesses, and we believe it can fix the broken identity system.
A surreal day
Yesterday was a pretty surreal day for a lot of us at Yoti. Our team of over 180 people welcomed journalists, politicians, business leaders, friends and family to celebrate the launch of a project which many of us have devoted ourselves to for the last three years.
All the hours we’ve put in, the whiteboard diagrams we’ve drawn up and the reams of code we’ve written brought us to yesterday.
The launch event was an entirely immersive Yoti experience. Party guests used their Yoti ID to prove their age at the bar and pour themselves a drink, prove their age and buy age restricted items at the Yoti Supermarket self-checkouts, and saw how the Yoti app could be used when dating or buying and selling online. You can watch highlights of the event here.
What the day was all about
Yesterday was just the beginning of a new chapter for Yoti. We know things don’t get any easier from here but we’re excited to see what the future holds.
We have a great suite of products which we’re ready to start integrating with partners. We’re already working with Worldpay, NSPCC, Axa Healthcare, NHS Ipswich Hospital, Jagermeister, Deltic (the UK’s largest nightclub chain), Reed and Freeads. Now it’s time to strengthen our integrations with these organisations and start onboarding new ones.
In our beta phase, we were modest in our promotion of Yoti. We were refining our products and we were, until now, not ready to shout about the app to the world. Now we’ll start ramping up PR and marketing efforts to put Yoti under the noses of new audiences in order to build our community.
So far, 141,000 people from around the world (95,000 in the UK) have downloaded Yoti during its beta phase – 43,000 in the last month alone.
Yes, we have a lot of work ahead of us, but at least for yesterday we could soak up what we’ve accomplished so far.
