Happy GDPR day! GDPR is the abbreviation for General Data Protection Regulation – the new data protection law that comes into force today. It builds on the current data protection laws and strengthens individuals’ rights – so it’s definitely a good thing especially as our inboxes will be cleaner!
Whilst often being portrayed as a burden for businesses, GDPR is actually an opportunity to look holistically at data collection and use practices and the governance in place, and see how these can be streamlined and improved.
The key aspects of GDPR for a business are privacy by design, data minimisation and transparency. It’s about embedding privacy as business as usual and increasing consumer trust by doing it well. Making the investment now will pay off – not just from a compliance perspective but through increased consumer trust and confidence in the use of their data.
